I thought you might like a more simple answer than the others. So here goes.

You will probably be pretty lost if you try to read one without the other and you'll probably have to alternate back and forth between the two of them. You may also need Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps. There are several other Blackest Night books (Blackest Night involved all of DC's major titles), but you really only need those three as they are the most important.

You may be able to get away with just reading Blackest Night, but there will definitely be some gaps between each issue in the book. Any way you go about it, you'll probably be lost. Fully understanding Blackest Night requires a pretty deep knowledge of the DC Universe. It is definitely worth checking out though.

. there are more books i just went to amazon.com look on the bottom banner where it says "customers who bought this also bought" those are the other books , its alot but its worth it
especially if you want to to know who the red , blue , and orange lanterns are , thats another collection altogether

I think Captain America is worth watching !

Captain America seems mediocre. Green Lantern seems downright awful.

I am most excited for X-Men: First Class. It has a good director in Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-***), and a solid cast including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, and current Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone).
